Why?
We're attempting to run this whole business Independently without all the usual trappings associated with the 'music industry'. The ‘current approach’ adopted by many is sadly lacking in its integrety and (not to over state it) over-hyped.
It's not difficult to see the motives of the established distributors when many are taking a 20% - 50% cut on the retail outlet price for being nothing more than a centralised, well-visited 'google listed', shopping arcade. Their focus appears to be on advertising and promotion and generating large revenues from it . Lets not take it away from them, there's some good stuff out there but is its survival paramount on clinching the advertising revenue?. Maybe so. - ( Well, we couldn't leave the original question answered with a question, could we? )
How it is today
The rules of this game are weighted heavily in favour of the established labels and the more recent on-line stores. The promotional & advertising agencies, the pluggers, the image consultants and the lawyers all have a vested interest in maintaining the status-quo by keeping "the band-wagon" and "the gravy-train" rolling. Choices for Artists & Audiences alike are dictated by shareholders interests, inter-corporate deals & directives and an "X-Factor" mentality of fame and fortune. The big labels are protecting their positions (after all they've a lot to loose), their signed artists generally have a stage-life directly proportional to their associated product shelf-life and in several cases many of "the labels" ignore the well-being of their artists in favour of the promotional benefits of the " rock and roll "lifestyle.
What? And How?
Self Development & Distribution
We're aiming get good quality music released according to our means. As a Band, if we wait in forlorn hope for the illusive 'record deal', its a forgone conclusion that the hard work will have already been done.... by us, and our efforts would then be on "signed-band" terms.
So, we want to be in control of the way our stuff is used - on our terms. It's quite simple and there's no hidden agenda it's Pure Independence.
Our objectives are simple ;- We want to make a reasonable living with reasonable re-investment
- We want to provide a good choice in terms of media, content & price
- We want to help those who can’t help themselves directly thru our DOT ORG operation
Other Artist(s) Development & Distribution
We'll soon be looking for other artists some to develop and others to distribute, what you won't find on the Autonomous Resistor websites is THE SHOP THAT SELLS THE LOT - this is because we are selective and because administering and accounting would be a massive burden.
We are not a promotions/advertising company (in the usual sense), we dont have a massive budget to flush away on saturation advertising, the majority of the work WILL be done by you, in the quality of your music the quality of your performance and your dedication to your art.
As a company Autonomous Resistor will always offer fair and ethical contracts to artists it is interested in.
If you like our ethos and approach, and you think we could be interested in your music, musicianship, production or artwork please use the Contact Us LINK in the first instance.
Operations & Ethics
We are attempting a fair and ethical approach to production & distribution. Whatever you do, don't let the word ethical panic you, we aren't a religous cult and this isn't about trying to make a "fast buck". We're committted to ensuring that our aims and objectives are met... by us and anyone working with us.
This gives us a bit of a dilemour. Who the F*!* has heard (or knows) of an ethical bank? If you find one (and we do mean REALLY FIND ONE!) please let us know. We've looked everywhere and we just can't find any that aren't true "MERCHANT BANKERS"(check out the slang). So if you know different please let us know.
